The 6.x series refines Full Site Editing with style variations, fluid typography, the Style Book, and a command palette.

WordPress 6.0 Through 6.3 — The Block Editor Matures
## Refinement Over Revolution After the explosive changes of WordPress 5.0 (Gutenberg) and 5.9 (Full Site Editing), the 6.x series focuses on making the block editor pleasant to use daily. Each release adds polish, fixes pain points, and extends capabilities. ### WordPress 6.0 — Style Variations Style variations let block themes include multiple complete design presets. Switch your entire site's visual identity — colors, fonts, spacing — with a single click. A theme can ship with 10 variations, giving users meaningful design choices without installing new themes. The writing experience also improved with better list handling, the ability to select text across blocks, and improved block locking for template control. ### WordPress 6.1 — Fluid Typography and Dimensions Fluid typography scales text smoothly between screen sizes using CSS clamp(). A heading that's 48px on desktop smoothly reduces to 32px on mobile with no breakpoints. This is responsive design done right. WordPress 6.1 also added dimension controls (padding, margin) to more blocks and improved the template system with fallback templates. ### WordPress 6.2 — The Style Book The Style Book is a visual preview of every block in your theme's design language. Open it and see how headings, paragraphs, buttons, quotes, tables, and every other block look with your current Global Styles. It's a design reference that ensures visual consistency. The Site Editor also got a distraction-free writing mode, better navigation structure, and the ability to modify individual block CSS. ### WordPress 6.3 — Command Palette and Page Management WordPress 6.3 is the biggest leap in the 6.x series. The command palette (Ctrl+K) provides instant access to any page, template, or action. Create pages, switch templates, change settings — all without navigating menus. Page management moves into the Site Editor. You can create, edit, and organize pages without leaving the editor interface. The Site Editor becomes a true site management tool, not just a template editor. ### Where We Are Now The block editor in 2023 is a completely different product from the one that shipped in 2018. It's faster, more intuitive, and capable enough that agencies are building client sites with it. The controversy has faded. WordPress powers 43% of the web, and the block editor is simply how WordPress works now.
