## The Product Page Problem
Product pages are the hardest pages to rank in Google. The reason: every store selling the same product uses the same manufacturer description. Google sees duplicate content across hundreds of sites and has no reason to prefer yours.
### 8 Ways to Differentiate
**1. Write unique product descriptions.** Don't copy the manufacturer's description. Write 150-300 words from the customer's perspective. What problem does this product solve? How does it feel to use? What's the experience like? Your description should be something no other store has.
**2. Optimize product titles.** Include brand, product name, and key differentiator:
- Bad: "Blue Running Shoes"
- Good: "Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 40 — Men's Running Shoe in Navy Blue"
**3. Implement Product schema (JSON-LD).** Structured data tells Google your price, availability, rating, and review count. This enables rich snippets in search results — star ratings and prices shown directly in Google. WooCommerce + Rank Math handles this automatically.
**4. Optimize images aggressively.** Use descriptive file names: "nike-air-zoom-pegasus-40-navy-side-view.webp" not "IMG_4523.jpg." Write alt text that describes the product: "Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 40 men's running shoe in navy blue, side profile." Include 5+ images per product.
**5. Encourage and display customer reviews.** Review content is unique, keyword-rich, and trusted by both Google and visitors. Enable reviews on every product. Follow up with buyers 2 weeks after delivery to request a review.
**6. Write category page content.** Your /shop/running-shoes/ page needs a 200-300 word introduction — not just a grid of products. Explain what makes your selection different, who it's for, and how to choose.
**7. Internal linking.** Link between related products ("Customers also bought..."), from blog posts to relevant products, and from products to sizing guides, care instructions, or comparison pages.
**8. Fix thin content.** Any product page with less than 100 words of unique content is "thin." Add FAQs, detailed specifications, care instructions, or comparison notes.
### The Long Game
Ecommerce SEO compounds over time. Each optimized product page is a potential entry point for a buyer searching for exactly what you sell. A store with 200 well-optimized products has 200 chances to appear in Google search results.
